A Book By Its Cover

My publisher of Dark Days has a really awesome way of selecting book covers. The authors are given 4 designs and 2 are chosen between the likes of the author and the company. Those two are then placed online and views get to decide the winning cover.

The cover that won was not my favorite. The one I wanted is the one shown as the cover image. The reason why it’s not my favorite is because of the depiction of Maya. I didn’t want readers to get an image of what I think she should look like but I really wanted readers to come up with their own image of her. Sure, I give details about what she looks like but I really wanted to be vague so that readers use their imagination to picture Maya. That way she wouldn’t fall into a box.

With all that said, it is important to know that I do love the current cover. The colors are brilliant and Maya does give off the vibe that I wanted. With that said, I wonder if they would let me do a limited edition with the second place cover?
